Vijender Gupta to be the Delhi Assembly Speaker

Delhi : Former Congress MLA removed from Delhi Assembly due to protests against AAP Gov, becomes House Speaker. The Rohini MLA has had a politically eventful career and this is a historic return not only for him but also the BJP which is in power in Delhi after 27 years.

Vijender Gupta, who was politically active since he was a student of Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), emerged as a strong BJP leader. He was one of the mere three BJP MLAs to win in the 2015 elections, when AAP scored a landslide victory. He has now ensconced himself in Delhi politics with a hat-trick of victories in Rohini.

“I am grateful to my party for this responsibility,” Gupta said expressing his gratitude. “I will make sure there are healthy discussions in the House and maintain it’s dignity.” He further emphasised his commitment to his party’s cause, which had been to present the pending CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) reports which he as well as his party had fought for bringing them to the Assembly.

With Gupta emerging as the new leader of the Opposition, the Delhi Assembly will now enter a new phase under the BJP’s leadership.
