New Delhi : Delhi is undergoing a major political transition today as Rekha Gupta is ready to be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of the National Capital. This is a historic return for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—they are returning to power in Delhi for the first time in 27 years. A standalone function will be held at Ramlila Maidan where six ministers besides Gupta will also take oaths.
This comes after the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections in which BJP won a historic 48 out of 70 seats, dethroning AAP’s 10- year reign. It was a setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which only won 22 seats. The loss was particularly brutal for many of its top brass including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, all of whom lost in their constituencies. The Congress on its part was still limping with no seats for the consecutive third time.
The swearing- in is likely to be attended by senior BJP leaders, including prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and several Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states. As Rekha Gupta and her team take helm in Delhi, all focus remains on this changing of guards.
