Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) : Despite being unfamiliar territory for Maha Kumbh Mela, as 2025 is occurring at the Triveni Sangam located in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, more than 60 crore devotees have already taken the sacred dip, putting previous years to shame. As the grand event approaches the final lap (Maha Shivratri on February 26), officials expect the number to shoot up even more than 65 crore by the last ‘Amrit Snan’.
A Historic Gathering
This Maha Kumbh is the biggest religious, cultural, and social gathering in history. With more than 110 crore followers of Sanatan Dharma in India, more than 55 percent of them have taken part in this holy ritual. Of 1.2 billion Sanatan lovers globally, over 50% of them have drowned in Sangam.
A Global Event
The holy dip is not limited to Indian devotees, either diplomats from 73 countries as well as King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan have availed themselves of the holy dip. More than 50 lakh (5 million) people from Nepal, the maternal home of Maa Janaki (Goddess Sita) have also participated in this spiritual congregation.
Breaking Records
Yogi Adityanath, the CM of Uttar Pradesh, initially made a forecast of 45 crore participants but by February 18, the figure had already jumped the 55 crore mark and now exceeds 60 crore. This number is likely to create new records on the occasion of Maha Shivratri Snan.
