India : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the guest of honour for Mauritius’ National Day celebrations in March in a major announcement by Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam. PM Ramgoolam described as a “rare privilege“ Modi’s acceptance of the invitation given his busy international schedule.
A Reflection of Strong India-Mauritius Partnership
Speaking in the National Assembly on Friday, PM Ramgoolam emphasized on the time-honoured friendship between India and Mauritius. His presence at the 57th Independence Day celebrations reflects the special relations between the two countries, he added.
Extreme reason : Indian President Droupadi Murmu was the chief guest of the event last year, further boosting bilateral relations. PM Modi’s invitation this year emphasises the special relationship that both India and Mauritius continue to nurture.

PM Ramgoolam admitted that Modi’s many international engagements, his trips to Paris and the US also made him accepting the invitation that much more significant.
