Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to Modi

New Delhi : Major going by the appointment of former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das as Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his selection and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) informed about the decision on Saturday (February 22).

Das, who served as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor for the last six years, was instrumental in navigating India through some challenging times for the economy including the COVID-19 pandemic. As the governor, he oversaw the adoption of a number of path-breaking policies by the RBI that facilitated growth, assured liquidity, and ensured the stability of financial markets during the crisis. He was one of the most powerful RBI Governors in recent years and his expertise in financial policy and crisis management was world class.

As Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister, he is now working even closer with the government at the highest level. The official order said his appointment will be for the duration of the Prime Minister’s term or until further orders.

With the depth of knowledge of the financial landscape and the policy making of India, he can add great value to economic decision-making of the Prime Minister’s Office in his new role.
