Delhi : Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had a bad experience on an Air India flight between Bhopal and Delhi that he didn’t hold back from calling out the airline for. On X (formerly Twitter), he wrote that the seat assigned to him was 8C and it was broken and uncomfortable to sit on. Even worse was that the airline staff admitted that they knew of the problem and that seat shouldn’t have even been sold in the first place.
Chouhan, one of the senior BJP leaders and a former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, was traveling to Delhi to attend the Kisan Mela and other significant meetings. Fellow passengers offered him a more comfortable seat but he declined showing that he would not cause anyone else discomfort for his own comfort but he was clear to say that this was not about his individual experience with flying but about the injustice done to passengers who pay full fare only to get inadequate service.
He expressed disappointment saying he had expected better service under the Tata Group’s management but was disappointed. “Isn’t this cheating the passengers?” he asked. His remarks struck a chord with many travelers who have encountered issues like this.
Air India got back to him with an apology and assurance that they were investigating the issue but will it lead to any tangible change? The Congress party seized the opportunity to take a dig at the government saying that it was not only during flights that passengers face problems, it was also during trains and rarely does any action follow complaints.
