Mumbai : Swara Bhasker is once again embroiled in a controversy. This time over her comments regarding the historical drama Chhaava in which Vicky Kaushal plays the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The actress wondered why, before MahaKumbh, when 40 people were accidentally crushed there in a stampede, people did not complain but were more outraged by a film showing the suffering of Hindus, saying this showed a “brain & soul-dead society”.
Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary, has drawn heavy criticism. She was also criticized by many including journalists and legal professionals for underplaying what was the brutal torture of Sambhaji Maharaj by Aurangzeb. Swati Chaturvedi, a journalist, noted that the accounts of his execution are factual and not doctored. Jai Anant Dehradai, a Supreme Court advocate, even suggested taking legal action against her for insulting history.
It drew a flood of criticism on social media. Twitter users Troll Swara, wonder why she has problem with discussing Hindu history when Mughal is defended. Chhaava doesn’t even show the full extent of Sambhaji Maharaj’s suffering, others pointed out.
This is not the first time Swara was embroiled in controversy. Whether about her outspoken political views or personal choices, she has frequently found herself in hot water. The thing with Swara Bhasker is that she never holds back from saying what she has to, no matter how much angst it brings.
